A few weeks ago the Amazon Web Services outage impacted over 1,000 companies and millions of internet users. One of the many platforms malfunctioning because of the outage was Eventbrite; yet on that same day several members of Grey Dog’s team received automated emails reminding us to sign up to upcoming webinars… via Eventbrite.
The platform, like so many others, was down that day, making it impossible for anyone to register. It’s a simple mistake, but it illustrates how timing really is everything. If those emails had gone out a day later, when Eventbrite was back up and running, registration for the events would have certainly been much higher.
Some things (like an AWS outage!) can’t be planned for and therefore require adaptability and quick reaction times. But good planning can help set you up for success in both your marketing efforts and your event execution.

A few years back, Häagen-Dazs, a sponsor of Wimbledon, launched the ‘Champion vs Challenger’ campaign during the famous tennis tournament. They ‘pitted’ two of their top flavours against each other and involved famous tennis players and the public by encouraging people to try their ice cream and vote for their choice.
